Mt. Pleasant, PA (February 7, 2020) – In January, multiple victims lost their lives in a fatal tour bus accident that took the life of a 9-year-old child in Mt. Pleasant.
Preliminary information on the circumstances of the collision has since been released by the National Transportation Safety Board.
The accident took place when a tour bus was traveling through a curve in the westbound lanes of I-70 in Mt. Pleasant. Due to the upcoming curve in the road, the speed limit changed from 70 mph to 55 mph. The tour bus lost control around the curve and went toward the median. It then veered to the right and collided with an embankment off the side of the road.
Police confirmed that the tour bus rolled onto its side and stretched all the way across the westbound lanes of traffic, where it ran into a FedEx Ground tractor-trailer. A UPS truck then struck those two vehicles.
There were two occupants in the UPS truck identified as 48-year-old Dennis Kehler and 53-year-old Daniel Kepner, who lost their lives in the accident.
Police have also stated that a Mercedes struck the UPS truck, which was then struck by another truck. The car was pinned and badly damaged. Luckily, nobody in those vehicles obtained injuries.
The driver of the bus was also killed in the crash. Police have since identified him as 58-year-old Shuang Qing Feng of New York. There were also two passengers who lost their lives, identified as 9-year-old Jaremy Vazquez and 35-year-old Eileen Zelis Aria.
The accident investigation remains ongoing by NTSB.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time.
